The recognition sequence defines the order of supported DOSes that try to recognize their filesystems on an image or inserted disk. The recognition sequence is fully adjustable, and here are two reasons why you might want to change it.
You run into a situation that an image or disk is misrecognized and accessed by the wrong DOS than expected. For instance, this image can be recognized as a TR-DOS 5.03 as well as GDOS image (its extension clarifies that it's a TR-DOS image, but extensions are not considered when recognizing a DOS). To prevent from misrecognition as a GDOS image, click on Disk → Recognition and make sure that GDOS gets crack on the image after TR-DOS does (as in the default recognition sequence).
If you are sure you will never need to work with other but certain DOSes, you may want to exlude them from the recognition sequence (for instance, the GDOS from above). In the below example, only MDOS and MS-DOS images and disks are recognized. The benefit is that the recognition becomes faster, especially for physical disks. However, there are two disadvantages:
You of course may return a formerly exluded DOSes back to the recognition sequence.
